Beauvais

All stitches are cross stitch. Stitch count is 263 X 263.

This pattern uses the Assissi technique of stitching the background and leaving the design area open. To needlepoint this pattern stitch the open areas in white.
For the model I used Antique White Aida cloth in 18 count and Rainbow Gallery Splendor silk floss #S1001 Dark Delft Blue and #S969 Light Cornflower, using 1 strand over 1 square.

My inspiration for ‘Beauvais’ comes from my love of textiles. From far Eastern intricately woven silks to vintage utilitarian cottons, linens, and wool fabrics, I am mesmerized by the patterns that can be achieved.

I decided to design my own ‘fabrics’ for cross stitch or needlepoint. To begin a collection that will be called ‘Vintage Textiles’ I chose a pattern with a feel of vintage French fabric, so for my first ‘cross stitch textile’ I have created one with a Gallic flavor and chosen the name Beauvais, after the town in northern France. I also like the fact that ‘beau vais’ translates to “Good will”.

Beauvais was featured in the January/February 2014 edition of Just Cross Stitch magazine.
